Jamaican-born author Natallie Rochester was inspired to write Hazel Hummingbird: La Colibrí Hazel when she found few books for her daughter with Caribbean scenes and people. Through this picture book she shares the beauty of Caribbean people, sights and sounds with the world. The story gives the world a taste of Natallie’s experience growing up in Jamaica, fascinated by the Caribbean island's natural sights and sounds. These memories stayed with her even when she was away from home. The passion to share this Caribbean legacy and heritage has inspired the creation of Hazel Hummingbird: La Colibrí Hazel and the drives her mission to increase diverse books, music and other media for children.
Natallie is also an International Trade and Development Consultant based in Barbados and Jamaica. She has over fifteen years’ experience in international trade and investment, business sector assessment, research, and development. Ms. Rochester’s research spans creative industries in the digital economy, trade in higher education services, value chains in medical tourism, trade in goods and services and investment. Ms. Rochester holds a Master’s of Arts in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University and, from Barry University, a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and a Bachelor of Science in International Business.
